Mali: recognition of ESO and Bachillerato

How to prepare Malian certificates, check the appropriate Spanish qualification and complete diplomatic legalisation, with official costs and clear limits to the available evidence.

Confirm the level before spending money

No Spanish official equivalence table specifically for Mali was found in the sources reviewed. This does not prevent an application, but your particular records need assessment. A diploma's name or an agency's table does not guarantee equivalence.

Application for the ESO qualification

The Diplôme d’Études Fondamentales (DEF) is not presented here as automatically equivalent to ESO. Ask which completed school years you must prove; Spain's document rule requires the last four years corresponding to the level requested.

Application for the Bachiller qualification

Gather your Baccalauréat or official completion certificate and academic records. The Ministry requires at least the last three years for Bachiller; the processing authority must confirm how your Malian studies correspond.

Obtain your certificates in Mali

Gather official documents showing your identity, subjects, marks and academic years. Before paying to legalise your whole academic history, ask the Spanish Ministry or Murcia's High Inspectorate of Education which documents your case requires.

  • DEF: Mali's administrative portal directs applicants to the Centre d’Animation Pédagogique (CAP), with a stamped application and birth extract. The school may hand over the certificate, but it is not the issuing authority.
  • Baccalauréat: the public information sheet states it is issued automatically after results and collected at the school. For older certificates, loss or errors, contact the school and examinations service; a digital duplicate procedure has not been verified.
  • Include identification, the application and authority for anyone representing you. You can use a passport: an NIE is not essential to start. Include previous Spanish school records if applicable.

Diplomatic legalisation applies

Mali does not appear as a party to the Apostille Convention in the HCCH table consulted. For academic documents, Spain's rules provide for education authority authentication, the country's Foreign Ministry and the Spanish mission. The embassy in Bamako publishes specific instructions.

  • First confirm educational authentication of the originals. The embassy requires prior legalisation by Mali's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
  • Request an appointment at emb.bamako.leg@maec.es. The notice requires the applicant's and, where applicable, representative's full name, passport or NINA number and date of birth. Each representative may act for at most two people.
  • Present originals, a copy of the attending person's identification and the fee. Bamako does not legalise photocopies or translations. Its legalisation completes the chain; do not routinely add another Spanish legalisation.

Translate the authenticated documents

Documents in French or any language other than Spanish require official translation. An apostille from a neighbouring country does not replace the legalisation required for a Malian document.

  • One route accepted by the Ministry is a sworn translator authorised or registered in Spain. Include the text, stamps and legalisation endorsements; request a quote for the whole set.
  • General rules allow other official translations, but Bamako's notice excludes legalising translations. Do not order a local translation assuming that embassy will legalise the signature.

Budget: published amounts and remaining costs

The following amounts cover different procedures and do not form a fixed total recognition price. Confirm fees and document requirements before paying.

  • Spain: ESO has no fee; the published Bachiller fee is €49.76. Check the current form 790, fee 079.
  • Bamako: the schedule linked from the 2026 fees notice lists CFA 4,900 per signature for legalisation. This is not a fee for the entire file and does not include Malian procedures.
  • Mali's portal publishes a CFA 200 stamp for obtaining the DEF certificate and no fee for ordinary Baccalauréat certification. The pages show no fee update date: confirm amounts locally.
  • Not all education authority and Malian Foreign Ministry fees have been corroborated. Add translation, authorised representation, delivery and any bank charges relevant to your case.

Enquire and submit from Murcia

Ask about the appropriate level, specifying the exact qualification names, dates, duration and available documents. Then complete the Spanish procedure and register the application with the required records. Do not send personal documents to OrientUP.

  • The main “ESO and Bachillerato recognition” guide covers registry channels and assistance in Murcia. Filling in the online form or paying does not submit your file: retain the registry receipt.
  • Check notifications and respond to requests. To enrol while awaiting a decision, ask the school about the conditional enrolment document; it is not an approval of recognition.

Plan without assuming equivalence or deadlines

The absence of a verified country-specific table is made explicit to avoid costs based on an invented equivalence. If you only need to join an ESO class, recognition of previous studies is not required for that enrolment.

  • Bamako's notice warns of about three months for diplomas and academic qualifications; this is a consular estimate, not the Spanish recognition period or a guaranteed date.
  • If originals are missing, names have changed or the issuer cannot be contacted, explain the problem to the processing authority before ordering alternatives. A personal statement does not automatically replace academic records.
