Employment history and registration: read and check your records

Learn what the entries mean, which report you need and what to do if a period is missing or hours do not match.

What to keep in mind

  1. A signed contract does not replace checking registration.
  2. The report is not your payslip or a benefit calculation.
  3. Ask TGSS about record errors.

General guidance for employees in Spain. The collective agreement, employment relationship and circumstances can change the answer. Seek employment advice for a specific dispute or deadline.

Choose the report for your question

TGSS reports are available through official channels. Importass lists accepted identification methods; you do not need to pay an intermediary. Store the file privately and sign out on shared devices.

Current status

Check how you are currently registered: active or deregistered. Useful when starting a job.

Employment history

Review periods, employers, schemes and equivalent registration situations. It does not detail all your duties.

Contribution bases

Check bases by period. These are not net wages received or a guaranteed benefit amount.

Decode columns without jumping to conclusions

The scheme identifies your Social Security classification. Employer/situation may be a company or an equivalent situation such as paid untaken holidays. Registration, effective and end dates should be compared with your records. C.T. is a contract code; C.T.P. expresses the part-time percentage; G.C. is the contribution group. Do not confuse this with the professional group in the agreement.

Why days do not always add up as expected

Two simultaneous jobs do not create two calendar days for each day. For part-time work, the report alone cannot calculate a benefit. Article 247 of the General Social Security Act counts registered part-time periods, irrespective of hours, towards the qualifying periods of the benefits it lists. This does not automatically equalise benefit amounts; unemployment has its own rules.

Explore a worked example

Someone is registered with two employers during the same 10 days.

How to interpret it

The overlap does not turn those 10 calendar days into 20. Do not use that sum to claim a benefit amount.

A useful next step

Review the periods and ask the relevant authority about the specific benefit rules.

If something is missing or dates differ

Check the issue date and the period requested. A Spanish report does not automatically include all work abroad. If a discrepancy remains, gather your contract, payslips and messages and request review or correction from TGSS through its official service. Keep the receipt. If working without registration, do not wait until the contract ends to contact TGSS, worker representatives or the Labour Inspectorate.
